Elegant and hip, this hotshot restaurant in the Royal Palms Beach Club opens onto the fabled Seven Mile Beach. Adjacent to a beachfront bar and grill, it is a citadel of fine cuisine, specializing in seafood recently plucked from the nearby sea. Co-owner-chef George Dahlstrom gives his perfectly prepared, familiar items just enough twist to satisfy jaded palates: calamari is fried in arborio rice batter with lemon aioli; the tuna spring roll comes with wasabi and ponzu dipping sauces; melt-in-your-mouth braised short ribs have a caramelized onion demi-glace; and sea scallops are pan-seared with corn, smoked bacon, and lobster mash. Dance the calories off to the estimable reggae, calypso, and soca sounds of Coco Red, then adjourn to the cozy lounge for an aged rum or single malt. It's equally enticing at lunch when it exudes a soigné beach bar ambience.
All the fish is fresh, all the steaks are hand cut, all the sauces, soups, stocks, breads and desserts are made in house, which gives the Reef Grill complete control over the quality they serve. A distinguishing feature of this restaurant is having the beauty of Seven Mile Beach as a backdrop. So it is not surprising that Frommer’s refer to the Reef Grill as one of Cayman’s finest restaurants and Fodor’s call the food ‘divine’.
